Running Analysis

Why

Good form greatly lowers the chance of injury. As perfect as we think we are, even the most seasoned of athletes have room to grow.

Benefits

Knowing what we are doing wrong and having ways to fix it gives us the ability to become more efficient. That means running faster and/or longer.

The Fix

The analysis gives us a road map on what we need to work on. Then between manual therapy, corrective cues and exercises we rebuild your run.

How to Record Your Running Gait Video

To properly assess your running mechanics, we need short video clips from three different angles. These views allow us to evaluate how your body moves, absorbs force, and compensates while you run.

What you’ll need: a smartphone, a friend or family member to record, as well as a flat, well-lit area where you can run comfortably

How to record the videos: Please capture 5–10 natural running strides (no need to sprint) from each of the following angles:

  • Rear View (Running Away from the Camera) – The camera should be positioned behind you at about waist height. Run directly away from the camera in a straight line. This angle helps us evaluate foot strike, heel motion, hip stability, and symmetry.
  • Front View (Running Toward the Camera) The camera should face you at waist to chest height. Run directly toward the camera. This view allows us to assess knee tracking, stride alignment, and overall movement patterns.
  • Side View (Running Past the Camera) The camera should be positioned perpendicular to your running path. Run past the camera from one side (either side is fine). This angle helps us analyze posture, cadence, stride length, and impact mechanics.

Tips for Getting the Best Running Videos

  • Wear shorts or fitted clothing so joint movement is visible
  • Use good lighting and avoid shadows
  • Keep the camera steady (no zooming or panning)
  • Run at your normal training pace

Once recorded, send all three videos to our office email: info@ActiveReleaseSarasota.com. Matt will review your footage in detail to identify biomechanical issues, inefficiencies, or injury-related movement patterns. This analysis helps us create a more targeted treatment and performance plan tailored specifically to you.
