What is the Graston Technique

The Graston Technique is an evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) designed to detect and treat areas of scar tissue, fascial restrictions, and chronic soft-tissue dysfunction.

Using specialized stainless-steel instruments, the provider can precisely locate adhesions that may not be easily felt by hand alone. These restrictions often develop from repetitive strain, poor posture, past injuries, or surgery and can limit mobility, decrease circulation, and contribute to ongoing pain.
Graston Technique helps break down these adhesions, stimulate blood flow, and promote the body’s natural healing response. When combined with corrective exercises and chiropractic care, it can improve range of motion, reduce pain, and speed recovery—especially for conditions like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, IT band syndrome, and chronic neck or back tightness. While patients may feel firm pressure during treatment, sessions are typically brief and highly targeted, making Graston an effective option for restoring healthy movement patterns and long-term tissue function.
